“For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. “Romans 15:4 (NASB)
Since 2020, at the end of December or my first post in January, I have written about the importance of committing to a daily Bible reading. I realize reading the Bible cover-to-cover each year might not be a good fit for you. In fact, as I have shared, due to starting a Revelation Bible study in August, I paused the Bible Recap.
One of the other things I recommend is making sure you choose a Bible that you can understand. Study Bibles are good fit for this. I go between the NLT, NIV and ESV. I do have an NASB Bible as well, which I like because it is more literal. I also like going to Biblehub.com. I can type in a specific scripture and it displays numerous versions of it.
Reading the Bible is lifelong learning. We read it to get to know God better. It is a way for us to connect to Him. He can speak to us when we are reading it. It is foundational on having a relationship with Him. You must know the Word of God to know, honor and be in touch with Him.
I used to only read snippets of the Bible through Bible studies or from my daily devotions. In January of 2020, before all of the COVID and shutdowns, I had decided to do a one-year Bible reading plan. God’s perfect timing for me. Again, due to a more intensive Bible study I am attending, I am not doing a chronological daily Bible reading plan for 2025 either.
However, if you are not in some type of Bible study where you are in God’s Word, daily, chronological daily reading is a great way to learn about both the Old and New Testament. It brings the Bible together by linking them together.
With YouVersion, there are so many plans to choose. Start small and work your way up to a longer one. Maybe begin with committing to reading the Bible 5 minutes each day. Since my Revelation study ends in May, I will be looking for a shorter plan to do over the summer.
You must know the Word of God to know, honor and be in touch with God. I love these acronyms I found for the Bible. B.I.B.L.E: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth; Basic Information Before Life Ends, or Biblical Insights for Better Living Everyday. Who doesn’t need some basic instructions on how to live your life?
I ask for you to be in prayer to start 2025 dedicating to some kind of daily reading plan. Yes, reading your daily devotion is a good way to be in God’s Word daily, but a daily reading plan helps you to learn and know God and His Word better to apply to your daily living.
Father God,
I ask for revelation on a realistic Bible reading plan for me for this next year. Carve out the needed time each day for me to stay committed to be in Your Word daily. Enlighten me to who You are and how to live the best life You have for me before this life ends. I thank You that I have the freedom to study scriptures openly in my home and in public. I lift those up to You who don’t have the same religious freedoms. May You protect them as they continue to read and live a Christ-filled life. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
December Verse
“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”—John 1:14 (NASB)
