“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”—John 14:6 (NASB)
As I have been massaging the scar tissue from my hand surgery, I can’t help but think of Thomas in John 20:24. He didn’t believe the other disciples has seen Jesus. His response was, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.” (NLT)
Eight days later he got to do just that. In verse 27, Jesus said to Thomas,“Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” Thomas quickly realized it was Jesus. Jesus’ response in verse 29 was, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
What a lesson we get from Thomas. Here, Jesus taught him what true faith is; believing in the resurrected Christ even though we didn’t personally witness it. This is called having faith. It isn’t easy to do in our society. Many may think we are some kind of cult, or Christianity isn’t all inclusive. Salvation through Christ is available to everyone, but you must accept it to receive it.
With studying the book of Revelation this year, I see the heart of God. He doesn’t want anyone to perish. However, there is only one way to eternal life.
In John 14:6, Jesus told His disciples, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus didn’t say, be a good person, do the right things and you will spend eternity with God.
Matthew 7:14 clearly states; “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” It is a narrow gate and a narrow way to heaven. Being a genuine believer who has a changed life from accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior leads to eternal life. Our salvation is the supernatural work of God.
Some may call it offensive, but the Bible is very clear there is only one way to Jesus. Yes, Christianity is exclusive. Not all paths lead to God; only Jesus does. He invites the entire world to know Him. It is a choice to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You either believe, Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead or you don’t.
This Easter, let us remember this truth to share by inviting others to either attend church in person or send a link to an online sermon. Watching online can lead someone’s heart to be pricked to finally walk through the doors of a church building.
Father God,
Thank You for putting people in my life to lead me to the One and Only Way to true life; life in Christ. You are so gracious to offer salvation to every person on the globe. May eyes and ears be open to who Jesus is and what He did on the cross for us. May those with a Thomas mentality of “seeing is believing,” be receptive to the Easter Message; The Resurrected Christ, who took on took on the sins of the world so that those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior get to spend eternity with Our Heavenly Father. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
