“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”—Matthew 18:19
Saturday when I sat down to write my weekly blog post, I was struggling. I was going through my notes, and nothing was speaking to me. I felt like God was telling me to give it a rest and wait until Sunday. I was having some anxiety over this.
I knew Sunday was going to be a full day. I started to question God. Lord, are you sure? I have so much to do tomorrow. Rather than listen to God and give it a rest, I went back to my notes to work on it. Again, I felt God shutting the door. Nothing was coming together. Defeated, I shut my computer.
The next morning, I woke up at about 5:30 am with the words Better Together and God reminding me of a photo I was sent from the knitting group this week. I laid in bed for another hour with those words and photo still with me.
When I picked up my phone from my nightstand, I saw a text from my son saying they weren’t going to make it because my grandson was sick. While I was disappointed, I wasn’t going to be able to love on little Lincoln and spend time my son and his wife, now my day was taking another turn.
As soon as I opened my morning devotion and read the scripture for it, a peace washed over me. It was, Matthew 18:19“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”
Okay, Lord, I am sorry I questioned You yesterday. Better Together it is! I knew God was going to carve out the needed time to get my blog post written. He not only gave me the title for it, but also the topic when He reminded me of the photo from Wednesday.
On my YouTube channel, I share my knitting wins for the week and then share this devotion. One of my projects was making children hats for a low-income elementary school our church has adopted. The prior week we had been told they no longer needed hats. Whatever children hats we had made, we brought with our donation to the homeless shelter.
A few days later, one of the ladies was contacted that the new school they had adopted needed 20 hats ASAP. I sent out a message in the Knit, Pray, Crochet GroupMe. We have been having some COLD weather in Texas, so I was planning on making hats to give out to some essential workers. I put that on pause because I felt making these hats was more important.
My request was sent on January 11th and by the 17th the group had made 45! You see when two or more gather in prayer, God moves. Look at how he moved the hearts of some of the ladies in the group to meet the needs of one of our local elementary schools. Yes, as a group, we are better together to meet the needs of the local church.
Initially, I had let my feelings of being overwhelmed distract me. However, God drew me back to Him and His will for me but showing me, I needed to trust Him with the details. Once I did that, it all fell in place. Not only did He carve out the time and give me the words and direction to write this, but I was even able to catch up on my Bible reading plan that I was behind by three days. God is so good.
Are there days where like me, you wake up thinking, Lord, how am I going to get everything done today? Rather than ask God that question, I needed to shift my attitude to, Lord, I know You will make the time for me to get done what is most important to You today.
While, my title, Better Together, was about my group exceeding making the 20 hats, more importantly, I am better together when I rely on the Holy Spirit to get things done. Together, with the Spirit living in me, I can accomplish what in the moment seems impossible.
Father God,
Forgive me when I rely on self and not my Helper to get things done for the day. I know that whatever I am doing in Your name, You will carve out the needed time for me. I praise You for moving in such a mighty way in the hearts of the ladies to provide handmade items for children in need of warmth for their heads. Not only will those hats warm their heads, but I also ask for the prayers woven in them warm their hearts. Thank You for Holy Spirit’s strength, wisdom, and direction to accomplish Kingdom work for You. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
