Talking to God
“After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,”—Matthew 14:23
Matthew 14:23 tells us; if Jesus needed alone time with His Father, so do we. If I want to walk in God’s wisdom daily, I have to seek Him first. Intentionally spending time alone with God each morning is the best way for me to start my day. It centers and grounds me.
My relationship with God should be one of friendship not duty. I get to spend time with Him not have to. It is a privilege. Not everyone in our world can freely worship Christ as some of us can.
Spending time with God should not be out of obligation but because I desire to be closer to Him. It shouldn’t be a box I check after I do it. Being in His Word is what connects me to my Source.
We get to talk to God. We approach him as we would a good friend. When you truly love someone, you don’t do all the talking. You talk, they listen and vice versa. This is how a partnership works.
I should be approaching my prayer time the same way. I can’t possibly have a personal relationship with God if I am the only one conversing. Yes, I should pour out my heart and soul as I pray. However, I also need to be still so I can hear His voice.
It is impossible for me to listen for His voice and obey what He is trying to say to me, if I don’t quiet my heart and mind. It is not easy to do this with the fast-paced world in which we live. However, when I do, I feel the comfort of His voice and feel the light of His presence.
My quiet time with the Lord isn’t going to look like yours We each have our own unique way of connecting with our Father. How and when you engage with Jesus each day is not going to be the same as someone else.
The more time I spend with Jesus, the more naturally His power and love flow through me. As we seek to know God more, He reveals Himself to us. When we grow in our relationship with Christ, the more He is reflected through us. We are always strengthened devoting time with the Lord.
Father God.
Forgive me when I do all of the talking and don’t take time to listen to You. Thank You for your patience with me in this area of my life. I know You are my Guide and will lead me when I open my eyes and ears to hear Your voice. Thank You for carving out time in my day to spend time in Your presence. I give You praise for Your Word and wisdom You reveal to me which help me stay grounded in being a Christ follower. I lift those up to You who are struggling in finding balance in their lives. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
