Exercising Your Physical and Spiritual Heart

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”—Psalm 119:11

Since heart disease runs in my family and February is “Heart Health Month,” I feel led to talk about our hearts this month…both our physical and our spiritual. My father had a triple bypass in his early fifties and died at the age of 69 from a heart attack. Because of this, I have become a little obsessed with working out and eating fairly healthy. When I die, it’s not going to be because I didn’t take care of my physical body. So while I know how important it is to exercise to have a healthy heart, I had to ask myself, “What am I doing to strengthen my spiritual heart?”

One of the reasons that I chose to incorporate a monthly memory verse in my blog was to hold myself accountable. God has been convicting me for a long time to memorize scripture, to engrave His words on my heart. I have done plenty of Bible studies where there is a weekly memory verse. I try hard to do that, but for me, personally trying to memorize one verse a week and retain it forever just doesn’t work. I get frustrated when I can’t recall it, which means I don’t keep up with it.

Memorizing scripture is not something anyone can take from you. One of the ladies in my Bible study turned me on to the app, Scripture Typer. What a game changer for helping me to retain my monthly memory verse. If you are like me and have a hard time sticking to the monthly scriptures, I encourage you to download this app.

Repeat the scripture as you knit on your projects. God knows how much I knit, so not only will I be memorizing scripture but whoever receives what I am making will have had that scripture prayed over them each time I sit down to work on it, needles in hand. There is no downside to imprinting God’s Word on my heart.

Will you join me in memorizing Psalm 119:11 this month? Please make sure you tweet @KnitPrayShare or share your projects on the Knit Pray Share Facebook page or Instagram using the hashtags #ThreadsWithRed #KnitPrayShare.

In addition to making gifts to give away to people whose path I cross that have made a difference in my day, I am still making red baby hats and will now donate to Warm Up America to bring awareness to heart disease.

Dear Lord:

As Psalm 119:11 states, when I hide Your Word upon my heart, it convicts me of wrong thoughts and actions. There is no downside to imprinting Your Word in my soul. It will arm me when I am faced with battles. I continue to pray for you to lead me to someone to bless with one of my Threads with Red creations. I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen!
