Magic Blanket

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”—Psalm 91:4

Two years ago, I bought 6 jumbo skeins of Bernat Blanket yarn with the intent of making a cabled blanket for my living room. In Texas, once it starts getting hot, any project that is big and bulky gets put to the side for me. I don’t need anything else that will trigger hot flashes.

This past fall,I picked it back up and could not figure out what pattern I had used for it. That meant everything that I did, had to be ripped out! After that, I decided to go for an easy no brainer pattern and knit in the garter stitch on the diagonal.

During my mother-in-law’s illness, I used my time with her to work on this blanket. Once I finished it, I tossed it on the sofa and didn’t think much more of it. I was just glad I finally got the thing done! The first time, my husband laid down on the sofa with it, he said, “This thing is awesome.”

Even though we live in Texas, we do get some cold weather and our bedroom is the coldest room in the house. That night, he took the blanket to bed and the next morning he said, “This is a magic blanket, I slept so good with it, but it needs to be about 6 inches longer on each end.”

Since it took me nearly two years to start what I had finished, there was no way I was starting over, so I just whipped out a jumbo crochet hook and crocheted on each end to make it long enough for him. So, now the “Magic Blanket” is just right for him.

This month I have been focusing on how we have God with us wherever we go. He is our “Magic Blanket.” We live in a world where we want a quick fix. Weighted blankets are all the rage to help you get a restful night, but we don’t literally need a special blanket to comfort us and give us rest. As a believer in Christ, we have the Good News that we have the gift of the Holy Spirit that we can call on for comfort and to find rest. I love Psalm 91:4. It tells us that God covers us with His feathers and under His wings we find refuge…that is more comforting to me than any “magic blanket.”

Dear Lord,

While having a nice comfy blanket to keep me warm is nice, Thank You that I don’t have to rely on a man made thing to find comfort and rest. Help me to trust that material things are not where I find happiness. I praise you the you cover me with our feathers and that under Your wings is where I find refuge from this crazy and busy world that I live in. I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!

How are you doing with this month’s memory verse?“Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”—Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT)
